Decorating for a girl - your daughter, in particular - is easier than most other design jobs because young girls typically like a wide variety of colors and styles. Whether you want to turn the room into a simulated forest or a fairytale castle, a properly decorated room should make your daughter very happy indeed. It's all a matter of getting all the right details in and capturing the correct ambiance that your little girl will appreciate.

Beachy themes are very popular, especially if you live very near a seashore or a body of water. It's very easy to design and will surely be a hit with a girl who loves the outdoors and the water. Ocean themes can be done with a light blue or blue-green for the walls and a neutral color near beige for the floor. This should simulate the water and the sand of the real thing.

A feminine style is seen in fairytale, princess and flower-related designs. This style is well-loved because of the colorful look, girly textures from the ruffles and florals, and the cute shapes in decorations.

Second, is the stars and moon theme. This is an interesting design for girls as this is commonly associated with a boy's room. However, you can still make the design very feminine with brighter colors and light strokes on the walls. Painting the ceiling a midnight blue will also give the bedroom a more realistic impression of being out in the vast night sky. If your daughter has a favorite star, you can paint it on the wall or the ceiling for a more personal touch.

The moon can be incorporated in the design as a deep or midnight blue. If your little girl wants a brighter shade, capturing a yellow full moon as the room's focal point also makes for a pretty design.

Fairytales are also a favorite theme for many young girls. The Disney princesses and other characters from famous animated movies become the girls' good friends. Most follow the setting of a castle while others make use of the key pieces in the story's plot. For example, mermaids (The Little Mermaid), fairies or fairy godmothers, Arabian-inspired design (Aladdin) and penguins (Happy Feet). The ideas are limitless, especially nowadays when the materials for children are growing both in books, TV programs and movies. Allow your child to use her creativity and apply her loved character and story.

Last in this list is the Barbie theme. They say girls undergo the Barbie phase while growing up and it's part of almost every girl's life (I can vouch for that). If your daughter is a Barbie collector, then this theme is perfect! Have a glass-cased cabinet for displaying her collection. Use colorful beddings, artworks and Barbie-like furnishings to complete her bedroom. Doesn't Barbie have a comfy couch, oversized chair and fancy dresser? You don't have to load her bedroom with all these, especially if the space doesn't permit it. Your little one can choose a favorite piece and make it as the room's centerpiece.

In closing, whatever theme your girl will have for her bedroom, don't forget the very handy area rugs to decorate the room. The design won't be complete without these attractive floor decors. Go for rugs that complement the room's color and design. And of course, with area rugs, lounging on the floor will be an ultra comfortable time for your little girl.
